Our Appliances

We may recommend an orthodontic appliance throughout your treatment.

Traditional Braces

We use 3M Victory brackets for our traditional braces treatment. These brackets work by straightening the teeth with gradual pressure, ligatures and an arch wire. Their unique quality is the size of the bracket which is miniature and therefore fits more easily beneath the lips.

This option is appropriate for children, adolescents and adults.

Ceramic (Clear) Braces

3M Clarity Advanced Ceramic (clear) brackets work in a similar way to traditional braces, although they are not made out of metal – they are made out of tooth-coloured porcelain. The colour of this ceramic material is clear and close to the colour of teeth, which is why these braces tend to look subtle and offer more cosmetic benefits.

This option is appropriate for children, adolescents and adults.

Habit Breaker Appliance

A habit breaker is designed to discourage finger and thumb sucking habits.  If these habits persist, they can cause long-term damage to the position of the teeth and shape of the jaws.

Palatal or Lingual Bar

A fixed bar is designed to hold the width or length of a row of teeth.   A palatal bar is fitted in the upper jaw and a lingual bar is fitted in the lower jaw. These bars can be used for a number of reasons, and are often in place to prevent unwanted movement of teeth.

Quad Helix

A quad helix is designed to increase the width of the upper jaw. It is used for people who have a narrow top jaw compared with the bottom jaw, and may have crowding or cross-bites where the top teeth sit on the inside of the bottom teeth.

Rapid Maxillary Expansion Appliance

The Rapid Maxillary Expander is designed to increase the width of your upper jaw. While the patient is growing an expander can be used to mould jaw development and widen your upper jaw. This expansion will create enough room to align any crowded teeth and make sure the upper and lower teeth bite together properly.

Removable appliance

A removable appliance is a removable orthodontic plate that can have several different purposes and designs. A simple plate can be a very effective method of moving teeth in certain situations.

Twin Block

A Twin Block is used to correct the bite of people who have bottom teeth that are too far behind the top teeth and would benefit from a more forward position of the lower teeth and jaw. Many people who need Twin Blocks feel that their top teeth stick out.

Early Fixed Braces

Sometimes fixed braces are used on young children for a short period as the most effective and easy method of correcting a crossbite or untwisting a badly rotated tooth.
