Hygiene is important while receiving orthodontic treatment
If you don’t take into consideration the health of your smile while undergoing orthodontic treatment then you risk damaging your smile. Braces can potentially be a breeding ground for bacteria if they’re not cared for correctly, which puts you at a higher risk for decay, inflammation and other oral health problems. This is why we encourage our patients to care for their smile even more so when they have braces. This means ensuring that they thoroughly brush every morning and evening , floss daily as well as visit their general dentist for regular check-ups.
Our Brushing Tips
- Brush carefully and thoroughly after breakfast and before bed
- Always use a soft toothbrush
- Brush in a circular motion above and below the brackets
- Find a floss that you find easy to use such as a floss pick or oral irrigator
If you fail to complete these basic precautions then you put yourself at risk of cavities, decay and gum disease.
